How would you encourage Calgary’s children (and their parents) to choose active modes of transportation for travel to and from school?
I would encourage calgarys children and their parents to choose active modes of transportation for travel to and from their school by holding regular community town hall meetings on a monthly basis to promote the benefits of active transportation and the safety component that is attached to the transportation mode they have chosen. It’s always a great idea to have the parents and their children the personal interaction with their school board trustee that will not only answer their questions and concerns but promote effective communication between the parents and the teachers and the school board.
In most cases parents don’t often have a open relationship with their school trustee and often the parents are left Making serious judgement calls with out having the benefit of reviewing their concerns with their trustee.
I propose to be open and approachable to all my constituency concerns and advocate until the concerns are resolved appropriately.
With my support parents and their children will always be assured they can feel safe with my assistance.
How would you work with parents and the City to provide safe routes to walk and bike to Calgary’s schools, including traffic safety measures in the vicinity of the schools themselves?
I would work to lobby the municipal government to have clean walk ways
And police officers to monitor the children walking to school and to enforce all speeding traffic is controlled to discourage high rates of speed in schools zones and or walk areas for our children who walk to school and are co dependent on a safe school zone to be able to safely arrive at school.
In my years as a RCMP officer I was a proponent of safe school zones and I was aggressive in traffic control to keep our children safe from harm.
I will lobby both the city and police to keep school zones safe for our children to be kept safe.
